Job summary

British Steel in Scunthorpe is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join the AIRED team, delivering structural and mechanical design solutions for plant modifications and maintenance. The role demands hands-on engineering excellence across concept to delivery, with site involvement and strong stakeholder liaison.

You will work on diverse projects, apply BS5950 and Eurocodes, and progress toward professional registration while contributing to continuous improvement and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Structural, Mechanical or related Engineering discipline.
• Working towards IEng or CEng or Chartered status.
• Knowledge of Structural and Mechanical Engineering Design.

Responsibilities

• Produce engineering designs, calculations and technical reports.
• Deliver structural and mechanical engineering solutions for plant modifications, maintenance and projects.
• Develop designs using recognised engineering standards and best practices.
• Undertake structural assessments and calculations to BS5950 and Eurocodes.
• Support multidisciplinary engineering projects across the business.
• Liaise with operational, maintenance and project teams to develop practical engineering solutions.
• Conduct site visits and surveys to gather information and support project delivery.
• Ensure designs meet health, safety and compliance requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the AIRED function.
