Novax Recruitment Ltd in Barnsley is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to own structural engineering solutions from concept through to delivery on a range of UK and European steel projects.

You will design, analyse and optimise structural steel frames, ensuring compliance with standards and buildability while collaborating with clients and the design team to keep projects on schedule.

• Contribute to tenders and bids, providing the engineering input required to support commercially viable solutions.
• Provide technical input and progress updates to clients and senior management while keeping projects moving to agreed timescales.

Senior Design Engineer - Structural Steel

Location: Barnsely, South Yorkshire
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

The Opportunity

Some structural steel projects are straightforward. Others demand far more from the engineer behind them.

This role sits within an established structural steel business with more than 75 years of experience delivering projects across the UK and Europe. From complex structures to large-scale steel frames, the work covers the kind of projects where sound engineering, practical thinking and attention to buildability genuinely matter.

They are now looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join the design team and take ownership of structural engineering solutions from concept through to delivery.

The Role

You will:

• Design and analyse structural steel solutions that are safe, efficient and compliant with the relevant standards.
• Develop calculations and design solutions using industry-standard structural engineering software.
• Assess loadings, stresses and load paths through different elements of a structure, ensuring structural integrity and buildability.
• Work directly with clients, colleagues and other professionals, interpreting construction drawings, specifications and project requirements.

What You’ll Bring

You will need substantial experience working within a structural design environment, together with a strong understanding of structural mechanics and engineering principles.

Essential:

• Extensive structural design engineering experience.
• Strong structural analysis and design calculation capability.
• Experience using relevant structural engineering software.
• A solid understanding of structural steelwork and practical buildability.

Desirable:

• Experience with Tekla Structural Designer / Fastrak Building Designer.
• Experience with Fastrak Portal Frame.
• Knowledge of Masterframe, STAAD.Pro or Masterseries Connections.
• Previous experience in structural steel connection design.
