Job summary

Assystem is seeking a Senior/Principal Stress Engineer in the UK Hybrid role to lead complex stress analyses and to develop a growing community of engineers within the Fusion and Modular Nuclear unit. You will deliver high-value technical work for clients while shaping tools, methods and strategy across the stress capability.

You will mentor engineers, drive capability growth, and support bids in a highly regulated nuclear environment.

Qualifications

• Lead and guide a community of stress engineers.
• Strong background in stress analysis and structural integrity.
• Expertise with FEA tools (ABAQUS, ANSYS) and assessment codes (ASME, BS7910, R6).
• Experience in nuclear or similarly regulated sectors.
• Chartered Engineer status or working toward it.
• Ability to develop and implement technical strategy.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex stress and structural integrity assessments using FEA and hand calculations
• Review and approve technical work, representing Assystem confidently with clients
• Mentor and develop engineers, building future stress specialists
• Drive capability growth - training, methods, best practices, recruitment and retention
• Support bids and business development, working closely with Engineering Directors and Sales
• Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams in the nuclear and defence sectors

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring:

• Lead, build and guide a community of highly skilled stress engineers
• Strong background in stress analysis / structural integrity
• Expertise in FEA (ABAQUS, ANSYS, etc.) and relevant assessment codes (ASME, BS7910, R6 etc.)
• Experience in the nuclear or similar highly regulated sector
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working toward it
• Ability to develop and implement technical strategy and capability development
