Job Description:
As the Senior Specification Technologist - Food Safety, you will manage the maintenance and sign-off of product specifications and associated documentation across all our stores, working collaboratively with various departments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Extensive knowledge of Food Law, including allergen management, legal food & drink labelling requirements, and future horizon scanning to anticipate Food Law changes.
- Supporting the Senior Technical Manager - Supplier & Product in implementing Food Safety and Quality Management policies.
- Collaborating with Food Buying to ensure new products and concessions launch on time, safely, and legally.
- Championing accurate completion of product specifications for Foodhalls & Restaurants prior to launch, aligned with company policies and ethical trading standards.
- Managing the review and development of supplier assurance and product specification procedures.
- Communicating effectively with suppliers, Buyers, and Restaurants Operations to resolve specification queries.
- Leading Concept to Launch meetings and maintaining communication of specification approval statistics.
- Ensuring the specification system accurately transfers product information to other departments, including Online, Copy, Ticketing, and Food B&M teams.
- Supporting Food Safety team activities such as hygiene inspections, training, and food complaint investigations.
- Building a sustainable, circular future through robust supplier assurance and product approval processes for compliant and innovative ranges.
How you’ll do it:
- Be organized, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and pay attention to detail.
- Have a sound understanding of food labelling legislation and regulations.
- Possess knowledge in allergen awareness and food composition.
- Be a great communicator, both verbally and in writing, with strong relationship-building skills.
- Be a project manager capable of delivering under tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Be analytical, results-driven, and data-oriented for problem-solving.
- Adapt to change and work flexibly.
- Be involved in industry working groups (e.g., IFST, FDF, FSA, Campden BRI).
- Hold a Degree in Food Science, Environmental Health, or a related discipline.
- Possess a Level 2 HACCP qualification at minimum.
- Demonstrate values of trustworthiness, respect, and leadership.
