Job summary

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist to lead the Blood Transfusion laboratory at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The post requires HCPC registration and relevance to Haematology/Blood Transfusion.

You will oversee staffing, training, quality, and service delivery across Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratories, with opportunities for professional development and cross-site work as needed.

Qualifications

• HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
• MSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
• IBMS Specialist Diploma in Haematology/Blood Transfusion; BBTS cert is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Scientist and senior staff in department management.
• Manage and deploy staff within assigned sections.
• Ensure adherence to Trust policies (health and safety, HR).
• Depose for Deputy Head BMS in their absence and take responsibility for the department.
• Provide cover for other senior specialists and deliver highly specialist advice.
• Deliver training to Specialist Diploma level within your expertise.
• Lead a specialist section ensuring high technical performance.
• Undertake equipment evaluation and adapt procedures as needed.
• Drive service improvements and innovations within your section.
