Job summary

James Fisher and Sons plc seeks a Principal Software Engineering Team Lead in Scotland (Inchinnan or Westhill). You will lead a software engineering team across the full lifecycle, ensuring compliant, safe, and robust software solutions aligned with regulatory requirements.

This role combines hands-on leadership with strategic delivery across multiple product lines. You will drive engineering excellence, manage performance, and coordinate with internal stakeholders to deliver projects on time

Qualifications

• Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
• Experience leading software development projects and managing lifecycles.
• Knowledge of product design, systems integration, and core engineering principles.
• Experience using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and engineering documentation processes.
• Proven ability to lead within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Understanding of quality and safety standards, such as ISO 9001 and ISO 45001.

Responsibilities

• Lead and inspire a team of software engineers, delivering solutions in line with engineering strategy and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee software development across the full lifecycle with focus on quality, performance, compliance and customer satisfaction.
• Own software delivery, manage team performance and relationships with external suppliers.
• Provide technical leadership for verification, validation and release activities.
• Maintain software source code, build environments and product design documentation.
