Job summary

James Fisher and Sons plc is seeking a Technical Software Development Manager for Embedded Systems. Hybrid role based in Inchinnan or Westhill, offering leadership to define software strategy, roadmap, and governance across key product lines, including defence and commercial projects.

You will work with customers and internal teams to define capabilities, ensure traceability, and deliver compliant, cost-effective solutions aligned with engineering strategy and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering, software, or technical discipline or equivalent experience.
• Experience leading software strategy and delivery in a complex engineering environment.
• Experience with embedded and non-embedded software development.
• Strong requirements management and traceability throughout the lifecycle.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel UK & internationally; eligible for UK SC clearance.
• Experience in defence, maritime, aerospace, or other regulated industries advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and evolution of the software vision, strategy, and roadmap across product lines.
• Engage with customers, stakeholders, and internal teams to capture requirements and translate them into priorities.
• Provide governance for software verification, validation, and compliance activities.
• Define and maintain software lifecycle management processes and development standards.
• Drive prioritisation of software features, enhancements, and technical improvements.
• Collaborate with Systems Engineering and Delivery teams for traceability across the lifecycle.
• Partner with Innovation teams and Product Line Leaders to shape future capabilities.
• Support business development and bids with technical leadership and input to proposals.
• Work with Engineering Managers to grow software capabilities and talent.
