Job summary

James Fisher and Sons plc is seeking a Principal Software Engineering Team Lead to shape software design and delivery across the portfolio. You will guide a talented team and drive development through concept, design, verification, validation, release, and end-of-life support in a regulated environment.

You will align engineering work with the company strategy and governance, manage performance and external suppliers, and foster a culture of collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience leading software development projects and managing software lifecycle activities.
• Knowledge of PLM systems and engineering documentation processes.
• Proven ability to lead and collaborate within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Understanding of quality and safety standards (ISO 9001/45001).

Responsibilities

• Lead software engineers and drive delivery in line with strategy, governance and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee software development across the full lifecycle with high quality, performance and compliance.
• Take ownership of software delivery, manage performance and supplier relationships to meet programme objectives.
• Provide technical leadership for verification, validation and release activities.
• Maintain software source code, build environments and product design documentation.
• Deliver scope within budgets and timescales; report scheduling and resources.
• Collaborate with Sales, Supply Chain, Production, HSEQS, Bids and other stakeholders.
• Lead people management: recruitment, onboarding, performance, mentoring and career development.
• Share best practices with fellow Engineering Team Leads; drive continuous improvement.
• Champion safe and compliant engineering practices and manage risk registers.
