James Fisher and Sons plc in Westhill, Aberdeen, is seeking a motivated Junior Software Engineer to support the development and enhancement of software solutions across the JFD product range. You will work closely with experienced engineers to deliver reliable, high-quality software that meets customer needs while upholding safety, quality, and engineering excellence.

Qualifications

• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related discipline.
• Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and software engineering best practices.
• Strong fundamentals of object-oriented programming.
• Experience with one or more languages listed (C#, C/C++, Rust, Java).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with debugging abilities.
• Proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and interest in software engineering career.

Responsibilities

• Support development, enhancement, and maintenance of software across existing products and new developments.
• Assist with software change management for current and legacy code, ensuring updates are tested and documented.
• Contribute to engineering documentation: specs, test plans, reports, user guides, manuals.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to meet customer and business requirements.
• Follow established standards, processes, and best practices for quality and compliance.
• Support testing, troubleshooting, and defect resolution throughout the lifecycle.
• Participate in site visits to JFD locations and customer sites as needed.
• Ensure adherence to internal procedures, safety and regulatory requirements.
