James Fisher and Sons plc is seeking a motivated Junior Software Engineer to support the development and ongoing enhancement of software solutions across the JFD product range.

Working with experienced engineers, you will contribute to new product development, system improvements, and through-life support to deliver reliable, high-quality software that meets customer needs while upholding safety and engineering excellence.

Qualifikationen

• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related discipline.
• Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and best practices.
• Strong fundamentals of object-oriented programming.
• Experience with one or more of C#, C/C++, Rust, or Java.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proactive attitude and eagerness to learn in software engineering.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality software.

Aufgaben

• Supporting the development, enhancement, and maintenance of software solutions across existing products and new system developments.
• Assisting with software change management for current and legacy codebases, ensuring updates are tested and documented.
• Contributing to engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, test plans, reports, user guides, and manuals.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality software meeting customer and business requirements.
• Following established engineering standards, processes, and best practices to ensure quality and compliance.
• Supporting software testing, troubleshooting, and defect resolution across the product lifecycle.
• Participating in site visits to JFD locations and customer sites as required for project delivery and product integration.
• Ensuring compliance with internal procedures, industry standards, regulatory requirements, and QA processes.
• Continuously developing technical knowledge and contributing to product/system improvements.
• Building positive working relationships and fostering a culture of trust and innovation.
