Job summary

Client Server in London is seeking a backend software engineer with strong C# and/or Python to join a small, agile team building cloud-native systems for an insurance product portfolio used across international businesses.

You will contribute to AI-enabled engineering productivity, influence architecture, and collaborate across teams, with three days in City offices and two days remote. The role offers a generous benefits package and hybrid working model.

Qualifications

• Backend software engineering with C# and/or Python
• Strong CS fundamentals: OOP, multithreading, design patterns, system design
• Frontend quality and frontend-backend connectivity (React/Angular)
• Cloud-native architectures (Azure/AWS)
• Experience with event-driven systems, microservices, CI/CD, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker
• Interest in applying AI to processes and products with solid system design
• Collaborative with good communication and problem-solving skills
• Startup or small-team experience preferred

• Work as an individual contributor on backend and cloud-native development
• Help build the technology platform behind a diverse portfolio of insurance products used across international businesses
• Explore how AI can improve engineering productivity and the products themselves
• Use Claude alongside strong software design principles, patterns, and engineering best practice

Salary: £40,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements

• Strong backend software engineering skills with C# and/or Python
• Strong knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals, including OOP, multithreading, design patterns, and system design
• Understanding of frontend quality and how to ensure connectivity between frontend and backend systems; React or Angular skills preferred
• Good understanding of cloud-native architectures, including Azure and/or AWS
• Experience with event-driven systems, microservices, CI/CD, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Docker
• Keen to use and adopt AI into processes and products, with understanding of milestone development and good system design
• Collaborative with strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Ideally experience in a start-up or small team environment
