Legal & General (L&G) is rapidly expanding its cloud‑native platforms. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and evolve scalable software with a strong focus on AWS serverless technologies and MongoDB.

You will lead by example, applying clean code and robust architectural principles, while mentoring engineers and improving our SSDLC practices. Flexible working options are possible within a modern Agile team.

Qualifications

• Strong modern software engineering, including clean code and architecture.
• Proven experience delivering serverless solutions on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway).
• Deep MongoDB expertise with schema design and aggregation pipelines.
• Experience with TDD, CI/CD, containers, and reliability engineering.
• Security-first mindset with cloud application development experience.
• Able to solve complex problems and make sound architectural decisions.
• Experience working in Agile environments and leading teams.

Responsibilities

• Own design and delivery of high-quality software end-to-end across features and services.
• Build and operate cloud-native, serverless applications on AWS with cost optimisation.
• Lead with clean code, architectural principles, and SSDLC-aligned practices.
• Identify and address technical debt to improve maintainability and operability.
• Define robust test strategies focusing on security, accessibility, and reliability.
• Perform and lead code reviews, providing constructive feedback.
• Drive continuous improvement in processes, tooling, and ways of working.
• Mentor engineers and foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Stay current with cloud, data, and application technologies and share insights.
• Ensure solutions support fair customer outcomes and align with policies.
