Job summary

Partner Company in the United Kingdom seeks a Senior Software Engineer to shape a high-performance, AI-driven search platform. You will design and optimize distributed systems processing billions of documents with millisecond latency, driving modernization and reliability across infrastructure and data pipelines.

You will mentor engineers, promote best practices, and deliver scalable search capabilities in a collaborative, technically ambitious environment. Remote EU opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• Five+ years building distributed systems in production.
• Experience with large-scale data platforms or high-throughput systems.
• Strong fundamentals in sharding, replication, consistency, partition tolerance.
• Ability to analyze performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize across stacks.
• Experience designing data pipelines and real-time processing systems.
• Observability: monitoring, alerting, and diagnostics at scale.
• Familiarity with search platforms (Vespa/Elasticsearch/Solr) or similar.
• Knowledge of JVM-based systems and performance tuning.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and optimize distributed systems handling billions of documents with low latency.
• Lead migration of legacy systems to modern architectures while preserving service continuity.
• Establish monitoring, automated testing, deployment automation, and incident prevention.
• Profile and resolve performance bottlenecks across infrastructure, databases, and pipelines.
• Design data processing architectures for real-time workloads and efficient information access.
• Improve system observability with robust monitoring and reliability metrics.
• Contribute to advanced search capabilities including hybrid lexical and vector search.
• Collaborate across teams to promote engineering excellence and knowledge sharing.
• Drive measurable improvements in scalability, latency, and efficiency within the first year.
