Job summary

SYSTRA UK & Ireland in Edinburgh is seeking a Principal Consultant (Software Development) to design, build and maintain high‑performance software systems. You will work with the Technical Lead and cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable, testable features for Paramics Discovery using C++, C#, and Python.

The role emphasizes architecture decisions, code reviews, CI/CD improvements, and mentoring. You will participate in agile ceremonies and ensure best practices across the codebase,

Qualifications

• Proficient in modern C++ (C++14/17/20) with memory management, templates, STL and performance optimisation.
• Proficient in C# with .NET Core / .NET 6+ and async programming patterns.
• Proficient in Python for scripting, automation, data processing or back-end services.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain SYSTRA's Paramics Discovery software across the full development lifecycle.
• Write clean, well-documented code with emphasis on testability and performance.
• Participate in architectural and design discussions with trade-off analysis and code reviews.
• Mentor less experienced developers and contribute to test strategies (unit/integration/performance).
• Collaborate with DevOps to optimise CI/CD pipelines and deployments.
• Interact with SQL databases, writing and optimising queries and stored procedures.
