Job summary

SYSTRA UK & Ireland is seeking a Principal Consultant (Software Development) in Glasgow to design, build and maintain Paramics Discovery using C++, C#, and Python across the full software lifecycle.

You will collaborate with the Technical Lead and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, testable, and scalable software, contribute to architecture decisions, mentor less experienced developers, and optimise CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, and SQL interactions.

Qualifications

• Proficient in modern C++ (C++14/17/20) with memory management, templates, STL, and performance optimization.
• Proficient in C#/.NET with async programming and OOP design patterns.
• Proficient in Python for scripting, automation, data processing or back-end services.
• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, design patterns, and SOLID principles.
• Experience with unit testing frameworks and profiling/debugging complex systems.
• Git-based workflows including branching strategies and code reviews.
• Excellent communication to explain technical decisions to stakeholders.
• Experience with SQL databases and query optimization.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Paramics Discovery software using C++, C#, Python across the full lifecycle.
• Write clean, well-documented code with emphasis on testability and performance.
• Participate in architectural and design discussions with trade-off analyses.
• Review code from peers and provide constructive feedback to raise quality.
• Collaborate with DevOps to optimise CI/CD pipelines and deployments.
• Interact with SQL databases, writing and optimizing queries and procedures.
• Mentor junior developers and promote best practices.
• Contribute to test strategies including unit, integration, and performance tests.
• Participate in agile ceremonies: sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, refinements.
• Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and empowerment.
