Job summary

One Sightsolutions Ltd. is seeking a Senior Smart Buildings and IoT Engineer to join the Major Projects team in London.

You will scope, design and implement cutting-edge smart building solutions for enterprise clients, primarily on construction projects, with some direct client work. You will lead project delivery under the OSS Technical Team, communicating clearly with project and client teams and mentoring junior staff as required.

Job description

We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Senior Smart Buildings and IoT Engineer to join our Major Projects team to work on a variety of high-profile Master Systems Integrator (MSI) projects. You’ll be involved in scoping, designing and implementing leading-edge smart building solutions for enterprise organisations, mainly within construction projects but occasionally directly for clients.

The engineer will be expected to have an advanced understanding of smart building technologies, with proven experience in systems integration within enterprise building environments. The successful candidate will be able to describe how integrated smart building solutions can deliver sustained value to clients and how these solutions will become the standard for building systems in the future. An interest in how technology can help address current energy and building
performance challenges is also expected.

Working initially under the guidance of the OSS Technical Team, you will be expected to lead the delivery of project work, including client meetings, design development and system testing. A team-minded attitude is therefore essential. Good written and verbal communication skills are required to describe and communicate technical designs clearly to project and client teams.

Responsibilities

• Co-design, deliver, commission, test and hand over integrated smart building solutions in accordance with specifications and project programmes.
• Review project technical specifications, then generate and document compliant technical solutions.
• Communicate remotely or in person with various building-services trades across construction programmes to guide and coordinate smart-building-related technical activities.
• Communicate directly with clients, either remotely or in person, to describe and coordinate technical solutions.
• Lead the testing of commissioned systems and system integrations with project and client teams to demonstrate operational readiness.
• Manage your own time to deliver work in line with project programmes.i>
• Seek out training and development courses to maintain advanced skills in relevant technical, project and business competencies.
• Train and occasionally mentor junior staff to help develop their skill sets and deliver technical work.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an advanced understanding of the following technologies:

• Common building-services communication protocols, i.e. BACnet, Modbus, OPC.
• Data-handling technologies, including RESTful APIs, MQTT and UDMI.
• Industry naming standards (BDNS).

Good knowledge/understanding of the following would be desirable:

• Other non-Tridium building systems, such as Trend, Johnsons and Siemens.
• Building ontologies (DBO, Haystack, Brick, RealEstateCore and 223P) and the value they offer within building environments
• ICT skills, including knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
• Working with a Command Line Interface in Linux/Windows environments.
• General construction processes and workflow/sequences.
• LoRaWAN.
• General IoT technologies, including emerging AI solutions.

The successful candidate will also be expected to demonstrate:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Good time-management skills and the ability to organise your own workload.
• A team-minded attitude and experience of working in project environments.

Professional certification in any of the above areas would be an advantage.
