Metlen Energy & Metals is seeking an experienced Senior Site Engineerto support our M Renewables Division across the United Kingdom. This is an exciting opportunity to take a key technical and site leadership role in the delivery of large-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects and contribute to the UK’s clean energy transition.
As a Senior Site Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and day-to-day engineering oversight throughout the construction, commissioning, and handover phases of renewable energy projects. You will work closely with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and internal engineering teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, to the required quality standards, within programme, and in accordance with contractual and engineering requirements.
Your role will encompass:
- Provide technical leadership and engineering oversight for the on-site delivery of Solar PV and BESS projects from construction through commissioning and handover.
- Lead and coordinate daily site engineering activities across civil, electrical, and mechanical workstreams, ensuring effective interfaces between disciplines.
- Act as a key technical point of contact for subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and project stakeholders, providing guidance and resolving engineering and construction issues.
- Review, interpret, and approve the implementation of engineering drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs, technical documentation, and construction deliverables.
- Monitor construction activities against approved design, programme, specifications, contractual requirements, and applicable UK standards.
- Take ownership of site engineering issues, coordinating technical queries, RFIs, design clarifications, non-conformances, and corrective actions through to resolution.
- Monitor and report site progress against key programme milestones, identifying potential delays, constraints, and interface issues and supporting the development of mitigation plans.
- Coordinate with the Project and Construction Management teams to ensure effective sequencing and integration of civil, electrical, mechanical, and commissioning activities.
- Lead and support site inspections, testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, punch-list close-out, and project handover activities.
- Ensure that construction works are executed in accordance with approved designs, quality requirements, inspection and test plans, and project specifications.
- Work closely with the QA/QC and HSE teams to maintain high standards of workmanship, quality assurance, environmental compliance, and site safety.
- Review and support the implementation of Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Inspection & Test Plans, Permits to Work, and other construction control documentation.
- Identify construction risks and technical constraints proactively and work with the project team to develop practical and cost-effective solutions.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive site records, including daily reports, progress records, RFIs, technical queries, inspection records, test documentation, NCRs, punch lists, and as-built information.
- Support the review and acceptance of subcontractor deliverables, ensuring compliance with project requirements and agreed quality standards.
- Participate in coordination meetings, progress reviews, technical workshops, and site meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide technical input into construction planning, sequencing, resource requirements, and short-term look-ahead programmes.
- Support the Project Manager and Construction Manager with technical assessments, progress reporting, risk management, and resolution of site-related commercial and contractual matters.
- Promote a strong safety-first culture and ensure that all site activities comply with company policies, project requirements, and applicable UK HSE legislation and regulations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and share lessons learned across projects within the M Renewables portfolio.
What you bring to the role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of site engineering or construction experience, ideally within renewable energy, Solar PV, BESS, power, or infrastructure projects.
- Previous experience in a Senior Site Engineer, Lead Site Engineer, or equivalent role.
- Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, engineering drawings, QA/QC, HSE, RAMS, and commissioning.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary and contractor-led project environments.
- Good understanding of construction planning, programme management, project controls, and contractual requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and take ownership of technical matters.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; knowledge of project management/construction software is an advantage.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across project sites.
