What You'll Do

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • As a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse within the General Intensive Care you will be expected to promote the delivery of a high standard of patient-centred care.
  • With the support of the Matron you will analyse, monitor, and implement actions which ensure that the service delivery is safe and effective in line with the Trust values.
  • You will be responsible for the daily operational management and service delivery process within the department, along with the line management and development of the nursing team.
  • You will ensure the smooth running of the unit, working as a key decision maker alongside the multi professional team, leading on aspects of clinical care and focusing on patient safety, experience, and quality assurance frameworks.
What We’re Looking For
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • They will be educated to a degree level with evidence of on-going education, as well as extensive experience at band 6 level in an Acute Adult Critical Care Unit.
  • They must be able to demonstrate a compassionate approach to the care of patients and the public, whilst also possessing the ability to ensure robust clinical operational demands are met.
  • The unit offers the opportunity to actively participate in Critical Care issues at Trust, National and International level. The varied and complex case mix plus a commitment to role development in a visionary manner makes this an excellent opportunity.

Qualifications, Knowledge, And Experience
  • 1st Level Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register
  • Recognised mentorship qualification and experience as a Sign Off mentor
  • Degree or working towards
  • Completion of appropriate specialty Course
  • Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice. Supporting a range of learners in practice Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Extensive experience in specialty to include considerable experience at Band 6 level
  • Evidence of clinical leadership ability
  • Proven management experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Evidence of utilising evidence in practice
  • Logical and consistent career pattern
  • Expert clinical skills
  • Ability to prioritise and deliver agreed objectives
  • Ability to work flexible hours and fulfil service requirements
Desirable criteria
  • Management Course (or equivalent)
  • Experience as an NMC sign off mentor or clinical practice assessor
  • Evidence of staff development and succession planning
  • Broad range of post registration experience
  • Experience of report writing
