Job summary

Amey is seeking a Senior Signalling Engineer/Designer to join the Consulting Rail team across Derby/Manchester/Birmingham/York. The role focuses on delivering design schemes for UK rail projects, leading a small team, and ensuring technical quality and client satisfaction.

The successful candidate will bring rail civil engineering experience, knowledge of DMRB/CDM, and a proactive approach to delivering on time and within budget, with a flexible hybrid working model in the UK.

Qualifications

• A Degree/Masters qualification in a relevant discipline.
• Relevant experience in civil engineering within rail sector, the ability to work in a commercial and customer focused way which achieves programme, meets performance targets and generates income.
• Be confident to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff
• A good understanding of DMRB, other national standards, best practice guidance, local standards etc.
• A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to Rail design
• The ability to support the preparation of briefs for fee quotes for the delivery of services when required.
• Can deliver on time, within budget and to the quality required
• Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate, apply best practice within the team

Responsibilities

• Work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
• Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy quality, cost and programme criteria; oversee junior staff.
• Liaise with client and supplier representatives at the peer level, attend progress meetings, respond to queries.
• Manage a small, locally based, single-discipline technical team and take responsibility for the delivery of the workload.
• Contribute to bid preparation and the general work-winning function.
• Work on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full-time but temporary role, including out of hours work.
• Take on people management when required by the business
