Job summary

A leading company in utilities engineering seeks an experienced SHEQ Advisor to ensure health and safety compliance across various projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction safety, excellent leadership skills, and relevant qualifications such as NCRQ level 6 or NEBOSH diploma, alongside a current UK driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Experience as Senior SHEQ Advisor in Construction, Utilities, Civil Engineering.
  • MUST HOLD CURRENT FULL UK DRIVERS LICENSE.
  • Previous experience in utilities sector preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide specialist advice on the company's safety policy.
  • Monitor health and safety standards among contractors.

Due to significant growth and contract wins, OCU Services, (part of the wider OCU Group) has some new opportunities for experienced SHEQ/SHE Advisors to be based out of our Borehamwood, Iver or Shinfield offices. The purpose of the role is to provide Health, Safety & Environmental leadership and information, advice and training to all levels and departments within the OCU Business, working across a number of Power/ Electrical projects across the business.

Responsibilities

  1. You will ensure strict adherence to the reporting and recording procedures for accidents and dangerous occurrences as required under RIDDOR, as directed by the SHEQ Manager.
  2. Shall be responsible for providing specialist advice on the company's safety policy and procedures and compliance with statutory obligations throughout the company.
  3. Shall monitor arrangements to ensure that health and safety standards applied by contractors are satisfactory and in accordance with contractual arrangements, company specifications, policy and procedures.
  4. Shall ensure that site employees work in accordance with the company’s health and safety requirements, policy’s and procedures along with those of its Clients.
  5. Shall recommend disciplinary procedures where any member of site supervisory staff fails to discharge their safety responsibilities satisfactorily.
  6. Shall take appropriate action when notified of disregard of safety on site.
  7. Shall ensure the provision of a safe and healthy working environment for persons working in or visiting any company operation, site and/or premises.
  8. Shall monitor provision and effectiveness of adequate and existing welfare facilities.
  9. Promote the reporting of near misses throughout the company.
  10. You are required to work at any site on which the Company operates, as authorised and as determined by the needs of the business. You will not be required to work outside the United Kingdom.

Skills & Experience

  1. Experience of working as a Senior SHEQ Advisor within Construction, Utilities, Civil engineering, ideally within the Power arena.
  2. The ability to act with initiative
  3. A mindset of continual improvement
  4. A tactful but assertive manner
  5. Capable of delivering confident articulate presentations
  6. Logical thinking & problem solving ability
  7. Good organisational skills & attention to detail
  8. The ability to cope under pressure
  9. Be able to interpret and understand relevant Laws
  10. Competent in MS Word, Excel Power Point & Teams
  11. Report writing (including, incident investigation, Robust RCA)
  12. Self-motivated but able to work as part of a team
  13. Trustworthiness and discretion, when handling confidential information

Required Qualifications

  1. NCRQ level 6 / NVQ level 6 / NEBOSH diploma
  2. Previous experience working in the utilities sector ( Power sector preferred)
  3. Previous experience Working within Live Substations ( Desirable)
  4. Experience working with management systems and the NERS Accreditation ( Desirable )
  5. Experience working in DNOs and IDNOs
  6. EUSR or CSCS in General Health and Safety
  7. Proficient in compiling reports
  8. MUST HOLD CURRENT FULL UK DRIVERS LICENSE
