Job description

Location: Hybrid – 60% Office Attendance (Either Blackpool, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, Pontypridd or Sheffield)

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior ServiceNow Developer to support the development, configuration and maintenance of ServiceNow applications within a large-scale digital environment.

You will help deliver increasing development requirements across portfolio management services, working closely with Agile delivery teams to implement approved user stories, improve existing functionality and ensure applications remain secure, reliable and accessible.

This is a hands‑on development role requiring strong experience in ServiceNow configuration, integrations, data structures and governed release processes.

You will also contribute to application support, incident resolution, testing and continuous improvement, ensuring solutions meet business requirements and platform standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop, configure and maintain ServiceNow applications in line with approved user stories and platform standards.
• Support ServiceNow integrations, data structures and application configuration.
• Manage code deployments, testing and releases through established change management processes.
• Diagnose and resolve application incidents, performance issues and technical problems.
• Identify opportunities for process optimisation, automation and continuous improvement.
• Maintain technical documentation, configuration records and change requests.
• Identify and communicate technical debt, risks and dependencies.
• Collaborate with Agile delivery teams to deliver secure, accessible and reliable solutions.

Essential Experience & Technical Skills

• Proven experience as a ServiceNow Developer, delivering complex application development and configuration.
• Strong understanding of ServiceNow architecture, integrations and data structures.
• Experience working within Agile software development and delivery teams.
• Hands‑on experience with governed release processes, change management and deployment activities.
• Knowledge of secure‑by‑design development and accessibility standards.
• Experience troubleshooting applications, resolving incidents and improving performance.
• Ability to translate business requirements and user stories into effective technical solutions.
• Strong communication, documentation and stakeholder collaboration skills.
• Experience with ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) or Project Portfolio Management (PPM).
• Previous experience working within UK Government, public sector or highly regulated environments.
• Experience supporting enterprise‑scale ServiceNow implementations.
• Knowledge of IT service management, application support and service improvement.
• Experience identifying and managing technical debt across ServiceNow environments.
