Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant in Birmingham to work within a primary school's learning support team. The role focuses on pupils across KS1–KS2 with ASD, MLD and SLCN, delivering 1:1 and small-group interventions in a supportive environment.

Ideal candidates have experience with additional needs, strong literacy/numeracy, and an Enhanced DBS check. This is a full-time, term-time-only position under the guidance of the SENCO and teachers.

Qualifications

• Empathy and patience when supporting pupils with ASD, SLCN, and MLD.
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills to support learning activities.
• Experience helping children with additional needs is preferred.
• Enhanced DBS check is required.

Responsibilities

• Direct pupil support with 1:1 and small-group interventions aligned to EHCP goals.
• Use visual timetables, PECS, and Makaton to aid communication and inclusion.
• Apply positive behaviour strategies to maintain a calm, structured classroom.
• Record progress and liaise with teachers, SENCO, and visiting specialists.
• Support pupils during transitions and help monitor their development.
