Job summary

OCS UK & Ireland seeks a capable security leader to oversee NEC Campus security operations, including CCTV, access control and incident response, aligned with Martyn’s Law and Protect Duty requirements.

Lead a Campus Security team comprising Control Room Operators, traffic managers and event security staff, ensuring coordination with NEC partners and external emergency services.

Responsibilities

• Lead and line manage the NEC Campus Security team, including Control Room Operators, event security search teams and traffic management, ensuring effective coordination and seamless event delivery.
• Act as the senior security leader for the NEC Campus, supporting campus stakeholders, tenants and event partners.
• Ensure effective financial and operational performance across all security and traffic functions.
• Promote the OCS One Team approach, working closely with NEC contract and soft services teams.
• Actively contribute to the OCS and NEC Group Security Boards, providing monthly and quarterly reporting.
• Provide visible security leadership at high-profile, high-footfall events across the NEC Campus.
• Develop and deliver a campus-wide training and exercising programme, including tabletop exercises with key security stakeholders.
• Build relationships with local policing, CTSAs and other security partners where necessary.
• Ensure reports operate within the security plan, policies and governance framework.
• Maintain safeguarding as fundamental to all security operations across the NEC campus.
• Share best practice across the Venues division and contribute to regular security communications.

About The Role:

To provide safe, secure and welcoming venues across the main NEC Campus. Leading security infrastructure teams, traffic and operational activities. The role will support the successful delivery of events and day-to-day business operations by ensuring security arrangements are proportionate, effective and aligned to the operational requirements of each event and venue.

A key leadership responsibility is the management and assurance of critical security systems and infrastructure, including CCTV, communications, access control, security technology, perimeter protection, hostile vehicle mitigation and other protective-security infrastructure. The role will ensure these systems remain effective, resilient and fit for purpose, while identifying opportunities for improvement and ensuring investment is driven by risk and operational need.

The role will lead and develop Campus Security teams, ensuring strong governance and effective coordination of security, events, traffic and operations. It will support safe, seamless event delivery while building strong relationships with security partners, emergency services and key NEC stakeholders.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and line manage the NEC Campus Security team, including Control Room Operators, event security search teams and traffic management, ensuring effective coordination and seamless event delivery, including close collaboration with OCS and NEC colleagues at the BP Pulse Arena.


• Act as the senior security leader for the NEC Campus, supporting campus stakeholders, tenants and event partners.


• Ensure effective financial and operational performance across all security and traffic functions.


• Promote the OCS One Team approach, working closely with colleagues across the NEC contract and soft services teams.


• Actively contribute to the OCS and NEC Group Security Boards, providing accurate and timely monthly and quarterly reporting.


• The scale and profile of the NEC campus brings significant security responsibility, with the Security team playing a critical role in identifying suspicious behaviour and preventing potential threats. This work is fundamental to protecting people and operations and demonstrates the importance of effective security in the context of Martyn’s Law and the wider Protect Duty.


• Provide visible security leadership at high-profile, high-footfall and high-risk events across the NEC Campus.


• In partnership with NEC Group Operations, develop and deliver a campus-wide training and exercising programme, including tabletop exercises involving key security stakeholders.


• Build strong relationships with local policing, Counter Terrorism Security Advisers (CTSAs) and other security partners where necessary.


• Ensure all direct reports operate within the agreed security plan, strategy, policies and governance framework, maintaining compliance and professional standards.


• Ensure Safeguarding remains fundamental to all security operations across the NEC campus, with the highest standards embedded through effective policies, procedures, training and operational oversight at all times.


• Share best practice across the Venues division, supporting continuous improvement and contributing to a regular security communications programme.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• SIA Door Supervisor licence/badge.


• SIA CCTV licence/badge.


• Level 4 Spectator Safety qualification, or demonstrable evidence of working towards the qualification.


• IOSH Health & Safety qualification, or equivalent recognised Health & Safety qualification.


• Experience of control room operations, including the effective management and monitoring of CCTV, communications, access control, incident response and security systems.


• Experience within the events, sporting or venue environment, with an understanding of the operational and security requirements associated with live events.


• Experience working within high-footfall environments, managing the associated security, safety and operational challenges.


• Experience of complex traffic management operations, including the planning, coordination and delivery of traffic arrangements within high-footfall and event environments.


• Strong knowledge and practical experience of risk management, including risk identification, assessment, mitigation and ongoing assurance.

HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILTIES

• Communicate regularly with colleagues through formal and informal channels on safety matters to ensure that there is a free flow of ideas and that morale remains high.


• Ensure that the OCS safety image is reflected positively through your actions and those of your colleagues.


• Ensure that personal H&S competence and skill level is maintained i.e. attended Managing Safety program and other Company safety events.


• Ensure that work activities are properly managed and supervised.

The post holder will demonstrate strong leadership, collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships, influence others and drive continuous improvement. They will be comfortable working at both a strategic and operational level, responding to immediate business needs while ensuring security standards, risk management, compliance and long-term objectives remain central to decision-making.

WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

40 hours per week (average).

Working hours will be dependent on event activity, operational requirements and the needs of the business. The post holder will be expected to self-manage their working time to ensure effective coverage and delivery of their responsibilities, with flexibility required to support events and wider business operations as necessary.

The post holder will be expected to adopt a tactical approach to the planning and application of annual leave, taking into account event schedules, operational requirements, key business activity and the needs of the wider team to ensure appropriate levels of security leadership and management cover are maintained.
