Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is assisting a secondary school in Wigan to recruit an experienced Behaviour Support Assistant. The role focuses on maintaining positive behaviour, promoting pupil engagement, and supporting pupils who require additional guidance during the school day.

You will collaborate with teaching and pastoral staff, follow safeguarding procedures and keep accurate incident records to help create a calm, structured learning environment.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a school behaviour support or pastoral role is essential.
• Experience supporting secondary-age pupils in a structured educational environment.
• A calm, patient and consistent approach to behaviour management.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build professional relationships.
• Confidence following school policies and recording incidents accurately.
• An understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
• The ability to remain composed when responding to challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of the school's behaviour policy and expectations.
• Work with pupils who require additional support to remain engaged in learning.
• Assist pastoral staff with behaviour monitoring and follow-up arrangements.
• Help supervise pupils during designated interventions, transitions and supervised activities.
• Maintain accurate records of incidents and support strategies.
• Encourage positive choices, respectful communication and appropriate classroom conduct.
• Liaise with teachers and pastoral leaders to share relevant observations.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and elevate concerns to designated staff.
