Job summary

Herefordshire Council is seeking a Senior Road Safety and Traffic Engineer to lead the Road Safety and Traffic Engineering team. You will oversee TRO development, manage a small team, and work with internal and external partners to improve highway safety and network performance.

You will apply expert knowledge of highway legislation and AutoCAD tools while delivering projects that matter to residents and visitors in Herefordshire.

Qualifications

• Degree level education in Engineering or equivalent.
• ICE membership or other professional body with Chartered or Incorporated status.
• Knowledge of highway legislation: Highways Act 1980, Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Road Traffic Act 1991, Traffic Management Act 2004.
• Experience in a management role with drive to improve services.
• Knowledge/experience of road safety and traffic engineering techniques including casualty reduction schemes and TROs.
• Competence in AutoCAD packages (Signplot, KeyLINE, KeySIGN).
• Ability to organise own workload and supervise team workload.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical advice to officers, councillors, partners and stakeholders.
• Lead development, implementation and review of Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs).
• Lead and develop a small team of Traffic Engineers with direct line management.
• Collaborate across Council services and with external partners to oversee traffic management and road safety initiatives.
• Use data and evidence-led approaches to improve highway safety and network performance.
