Job summary

North East Combined Authority is offering an exciting role within our Resident and Business Support service as a Revenues and Benefits Technical Support Officer. This position combines technical expertise with frontline service delivery, supporting residents and businesses while helping shape council services.

You will handle high-level enquiries, appeals and enforcement actions, provide expert guidance across the service, and contribute to training, QA and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Significant experience within a Revenues and Benefits environment.
• Strong technical knowledge or ability to quickly develop expertise.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence dealing with complex cases.
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to support change and service development.

Responsibilities

• Managing and responding to high-level enquiries such as complaints, FOI requests, SARs and Councillor enquiries.
• Handling appeals and representing the Council at tribunals.
• Supporting enforcement activity, including attending court and progressing legal actions such as bankruptcy, charging orders and winding-up proceedings.
• Providing expert technical advice across Resident and Business Support services.
• Delivering training and developing structured learning programmes, including inductions for new colleagues.
• Supporting quality assurance processes to maintain high service standards.
• Identifying opportunities for innovation, efficiency and service improvement.
