Job summary

UKRI in London is seeking a Senior Research HPC Engineer to lead development of Scientific Computing infrastructure and scalable tools for researchers. You will design, deploy, and maintain HPC services, containers, and workflows, aligning with strategic goals and research needs.

The role requires extensive experience with Linux HPC, SLURM, and software packaging, plus strong collaboration with researchers and cross‑functional IT teams to deliver reliable, high‑performance solutions.

Qualifications

Degree in computing/scientific research or engineering with a significant computational component
Significant experience working at a high level in a relevant HPC/research environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

Develop and deliver Scientific Computing infrastructure and resilient services aligned with strategic goals
Translate experimental requirements into scalable computational solutions
Support researchers in using HPC, triage issues, and drive platform improvements
Build and maintain reproducible runtimes, containers, and workflows for compute workloads
Coordinate HPC training and onboarding for users
Manage projects to stay within scope, cost, and timelines
Monitor, report, and promote HPC services and usage
Design communication strategies and engage stakeholders via user groups
Create training materials, runbooks, and onboarding docs
Benchmark services against similar organisations and track research trends
