Job summary

Environment Agency in England seeks a Senior Regulatory Officer to lead regulation of high hazard industries, with a focus on oil refineries, ensuring safe operation and environmental protection. You will oversee inspections, investigations and enforcement, work with partner organisations, and contribute to regulatory strategy and local delivery.

Travel to sites is required; an office base is provided. An additional £4,750 allowance for specialist expertise in high hazard regulation applies

Qualifications

• Knowledge of environmental regulation and/or industrial experience within oil refining, energy, petrochemical, COMAH, or other high hazard industries.
• Practical application of regulatory compliance.
• Influencing skills and success in developing good relations in complex environments.
• Degree (or equivalent) ideally in a science or engineering subject or comparable external industrial experience.
• Full UK driving licence

Responsibilities

• Lead regulation of complex and nationally significant oil refineries, assessing operators’ ability to protect people and the environment.
• Lead site inspections, investigations and enforcement actions for significant environmental incidents.
• Influence senior industry leaders and stakeholders to ensure a consistent regulatory approach.
• Plan and deliver the team's regulatory work programme across multiple areas.
• Provide expert input into investigations and collaborate with partner organisations to deliver regulatory outcomes.
