Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Senior Independent Safety Assessment Engineer to lead independent safety assurance activities for rail projects across the UK. You will act as an AsBo/ISA, align with EN standards, and collaborate with clients, teams and regulators.

You will contribute to bid work, develop assurance strategies, and ensure safety across lifecycle stages, with a focus on governance, risk management and continuous professional development.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in ISA/AsBo activities within rail projects.
• Knowledge of railway standards and legislation (TSIs, RIS, RGS).
• Experience with hazard identification and risk assessment.
• RAM analysis and assurance experience.
• Authorisation and safety management of rolling stock and signalling projects.

Responsibilities

• Act as Lead Independent Safety Assessor for AsBo/ISA across rail projects.
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams to shape services and bid opportunities.
• Develop and implement assurance strategies and safety plans.
• Prepare and review Safety Assessment Plans, logs and reports.
• Engage with authorities (e.g. ORR) and stakeholders as needed.
