Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is delivering critical infrastructure in London in partnership with Thames Water. We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to own key commercial activities and drive successful project delivery on Beckton Sewage Treatment Works.

You will manage all aspects of quantity surveying, provide robust commercial risk oversight, and mentor junior colleagues as part of a collaborative project team. This is a demanding, high-visibility role on a major infrastructure programme.

Qualifications

• Experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor role within the infrastructure sector.
• A degree or higher qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
• An understanding of commercial risk and opportunity management, with a willingness to develop this knowledge further in relation to internal processes and client requirements.
• Strong commercial awareness, negotiation skills and the ability to manage contractual and financial risk.
• A proactive approach to learning, professional development and progression to the next career level.

Responsibilities

• Taking commercial responsibility for a project or designated section of works.
• Managing all aspects of quantity surveying, including measurement, valuations and agreement of works.
• Preparing and managing interim applications for payment and agreeing payment certifications.
• Drafting, negotiating, managing and settling subcontract agreements.
• Monitoring and reporting monthly costs, forecasts and commercial performance.
• Preparing, negotiating and agreeing claims, variations and final accounts.
• Identifying and managing change, ensuring appropriate change control processes are followed.
• Advising project teams on contractual obligations, commercial risks and opportunities.
• Preparing contract reviews, Business Plan Review information, management accounts and project business plan inputs.
• Supporting the establishment and management of project budgets from contract award.
• Ensuring contract documentation is properly executed before work commences.
• Building effective working relationships with clients, subcontractors, consultants and project stakeholders.
• Supporting and mentoring trainee, assistant and junior quantity surveying colleagues.
• Keeping management informed of emerging commercial issues and risks that could affect project delivery or business performance.
