Job summary

Thames Water Ltd is seeking a Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead a dedicated team of Quantity Surveyors driving value across major projects and AMP8 initiatives. You will oversee a contractor programme valued up to £400m per year and ensure robust commercial processes and contract governance.

The role requires chartered status or detailed RICS knowledge, civil engineering experience, and strong leadership skills to manage up to 40 QS professionals.

Qualifications

• Degree or Master’s in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
• Civil engineering background in large-scale infrastructure projects preferred.
• Experience managing up to 40 Quantity Surveyors and developing them to chartered status.
• Extensive experience in commercial management of project portfolios, pre- and post-contract.
• Experience negotiating with suppliers on commercial/contractual matters and assessing risk.
• Strong communication to align multiple stakeholders and drive opportunities to fruition.
• Self-starter, resilient and able to perform under pressure.
• Hold a full UK driving licence and own transport.
• Chartered or detailed knowledge of the RICS.
• Knowledge of water regulation (OFWAT price review) desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors across major projects.
• Ensure contractual compliance and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Develop and advise on procurement strategies for the delivery area.
• Provide commercial support to third-party suppliers and procurement teams.
• Manage relationships with direct delivery contractors and senior stakeholders.
• Oversee performance reporting and governance of budgets and spend.
