Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team in High Marnham, UK, supporting National Grid's Great Grid Partnership programme within a broad infrastructure portfolio.

The role covers all commercial and QS duties, including measurement, interim valuations, subcontract management, and cost forecasting. You will mentor junior commercial colleagues and build strong client and subcontractor relationships. A degree in Quantity Surveying is required; RICS is desirable.

• Experience managing live subcontract packages under NEC contracts.
• Degree in Quantity Surveying; RICS membership is desirable but not essential.
• Experience working on power, energy or infrastructure projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage commercial risk while driving project performance.

Responsibilities

• Manage all commercial and quantity surveying duties across allocated work packages.
• Measure, value, and agree works; prepare interim applications and payment certifications.
• Draft, manage, and close out subcontracts; manage live subcontract packages and change control.
• Provide monthly cost reporting and commercial forecasting; support budget establishment.
• Advise project teams on contractual obligations and commercial risks; maintain client/subcontractor relationships.

The Senior Quantity Surveyor Opportunity

Laing O'Rourke are currently recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team in High Marnham.

We have been appointed as construction partner for National Grid's Great Grid Partnership programme, which forms part of a supply chain framework that will also support infrastructure projects beyond 2030.

What will the role look like?

• Managing all commercial and quantity surveying duties across allocated work packages.
• Measurement, valuation, and agreement of works.
• Preparation and management of interim applications and payment certifications.
• Drafting, managing, and closing out subcontracts.
• Managing live subcontract packages, including commercial performance, change, valuations, payments, and contractual obligations.
• Monthly cost reporting and commercial forecasting.
• Preparation, management, and negotiation of claims and final accounts.
• Identifying, pricing, and managing change control processes.
• Advising project teams on contractual obligations, commercial risks, and opportunities.
• Producing contract reviews, BPR information, and management reports.
• Supporting project budget establishment from contract award stage.
• Building strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
• Mentoring and supporting junior commercial team members.
