Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor for major UK infrastructure work, based in High Marnham. The role covers full commercial responsibility across work packages on the National Grid Great Grid Partnership framework, with exposure to contractual reviews and change control.

You will lead cost reporting, subcontract management, and claims, while mentoring junior team members and engaging with clients and stakeholders to maximise value and minimise risk.

Qualifications

• Strong NEC contract knowledge.
• Experience on power or major infrastructure projects.
• Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage risk while delivering commercial performance.

Responsibilities

• Manage all commercial and QS duties across work packages.
• Measure, value, and agree works.
• Prepare and manage interim applications and payment certificates.
• Draft and close subcontracts.
• Run monthly cost reporting and commercial forecasts.
• Prepare, manage and negotiate claims and final accounts.
• Identify, price and manage change control processes.
• Advise on contractual obligations, risks and opportunities.
• Produce contract reviews and management reports.
• Support project budget from award to delivery.
• Build strong relationships with clients and subcontractors.
• Mentor junior commercial team members.

The opportunity:

Laing O'Rourke is currently recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team in High Marnham.

We have been appointed as construction partner for National Grid's Great Grid Partnership programme, which forms part of a supply chain framework that will also support infrastructure projects beyond 2030.

What will the role look like?

• Managing all commercial and quantity surveying duties across allocated work packages
• Measurement, valuation, and agreement of works
• Preparation and management of interim applications and payment certifications
• Drafting, managing, and closing out subcontracts
• Monthly cost reporting and commercial forecasting
• Preparation, management, and negotiation of claims and final accounts
• Identifying, pricing, and managing change control processes
• Advising project teams on contractual obligations, commercial risks, and opportunities
• Producing contract reviews, BPR information, and management reports
• Supporting project budget establishment from contract award stage
• Building strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and project stakeholders
• Mentoring and supporting junior commercial team members

What skills & experience are we looking for?

• Strong NEC contract knowledge.
• Previous experience within power or major infrastructure projects.
• A degree in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to manage risk while driving commercial performance.
• RICS membership (desirable but not essential)
