Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial activities on high-profile infrastructure and power projects across the Doncaster area. This role forms part of the National Grid's Great Grid Partnership programme and involves delivering robust commercial performance on complex packages.

You will oversee measurement, valuations, subcontract management, and cost reporting, while mentoring junior team members and building strong client and supply chain relationships.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
• NEC contract knowledge is essential.
• Experience on power or major infrastructure projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage all commercial and quantity surveying duties across allocated work packages.
• Measurement, valuation, and agreement of works; interim applications and payments.
• Draft, manage and close out subcontracts; manage live subcontracts and change control.
• Cost reporting, forecasting, and final accounts; advise on contractual obligations and risks.
• Build relationships with clients, subcontractors and project stakeholders; mentor junior team members.

The Senior Quantity Surveyor opportunity:

Laing O'Rourke are currently recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team working across projects in Doncaster.

We have been appointed as construction partner for National Grid's Great Grid Partnership programme, which forms part of a supply chain framework that will also support infrastructure projects beyond 2030.

What will the role look like?

• Managing all commercial and quantity surveying duties across allocated work packages
• Measurement, valuation, and agreement of works
• Preparation and management of interim applications and payment certifications
• Drafting, managing, and closing out subcontracts
• Managing live subcontracts, including commercial performance, change, valuations, payments, and contractual obligations
• Monthly cost reporting and commercial forecasting
• Preparation, management, and negotiation of claims and final accounts
• Identifying, pricing, and managing change control processes
• Advising project teams on contractual obligations, commercial risks, and opportunities
• Producing contract reviews, BPR information, and management reports
• Supporting project budget establishment from contract award stage
• Building strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and project stakeholders
• Mentoring and supporting junior commercial team members

What skills & experience are we looking for?

• A degree in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management.
• RICS membership (desirable but not essential)
• Strong NEC contract knowledge.
• Previous experience within power or major infrastructure projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to manage risk while driving commercial performance.
