Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join projects in Doncaster, including work on National Grid's Great Grid Partnership programme. You will lead commercial activities across work packages, manage subcontracts, valuations, and reporting, while mentoring junior staff and coordinating with clients and stakeholders.

The role requires NEC contract knowledge, a QS degree, and experience in major infrastructure or power projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management.
• RICS membership is desirable.
• Strong NEC contract knowledge.
• Experience on power or major infrastructure projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
• Ability to manage risk while driving commercial performance.

Responsibilities

• Manage all commercial and QS duties across work packages.
• Measure, value and agree works.
• Prepare and manage interim applications and payment certs.
• Draft, manage and close subcontracts.
• Oversee live subcontracts: performance, changes, valuations, payments and obligations.
• Monthly cost reporting and commercial forecasting.
• Prepare, manage and negotiate claims and final accounts.
• Identify, price and manage change control processes.
• Advise project teams on contractual obligations and risks.
• Produce contract reviews and management reports.
• Support project budget establishment from award.
• Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and stakeholders.
• Mentor and support junior commercial team members.

The Senior Quantity Surveyor Opportunity

Laing O'Rourke are currently recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team working across projects in Doncaster. We have been appointed as construction partner for National Grid's Great Grid Partnership programme, which forms part of a supply chain framework that will also support infrastructure projects beyond 2030.

What will the role look like?

• Managing all commercial and quantity surveying duties across allocated work packages
• Measurement, valuation, and agreement of works
• Preparation and management of interim applications and payment certifications
• Drafting, managing, and closing out subcontracts
• Managing live subcontracts, including commercial performance, change, valuations, payments, and contractual obligations
• Monthly cost reporting and commercial forecasting
• Preparation, management, and negotiation of claims and final accounts
• Identifying, pricing, and managing change control processes
• Advising project teams on contractual obligations, commercial risks, and opportunities
• Producing contract reviews, BPR information, and management reports
• Supporting project budget establishment from contract award stageBuilding strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and project stakeholders
• Mentoring and supporting junior commercial team members

What skills & experience are we looking for?

• A degree in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management.
• RICS membership (desirable but not essential)
• Strong NEC contract knowledge.
• Previous experience within power or major infrastructure projects.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to manage risk while driving commercial performance.
