Job summary

Sphere Solutions Ltd in Bristol is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take commercial responsibility for a circa £15m design and build refurbishment project, on a site-based role within a main contractor environment.

You will manage procurement, valuations and final accounts, lead commercial reporting and risk mitigation, and mentor junior team members while ensuring profitability and adherence to contractual procedures.

Qualifications

• Experience as Quantity Surveyor/Senior Quantity Surveyor for a main contractor.
• Strong commercial experience in construction/refurbishment projects.
• Commutable to Bristol and able to work on site.

Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join an established main contractor on a permanent, site-based position in Bristol.

The successful candidate will take commercial responsibility for a circa £15m design and build refurbishment project, involving the expansion of an existing data centre and the addition of 2.4MW of IT capacity. Data centre experience is not essential, but you must have strong previous experience working for a main contractor and be confident taking commercial responsibility for major construction or refurbishment projects.

What you’ll be doing

• Taking commercial and contractual responsibility for the project
• Managing commercial reporting, forecasting, cash flow and profitability
• Managing procurement, subcontractor packages and subcontract administration
• Preparing and managing valuations, payment applications and final accounts
• Identifying, managing and recovering commercial entitlements, including variations and change
• Managing project costs, budgets and commercial performance
• Working closely with the Project Manager and site team to maximise profitability and cash generation
• Identifying commercial risks and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies
• Ensuring contractual and commercial procedures are followed throughout the project
• Supporting and mentoring junior members of the commercial team

What we’re looking for

• Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor for a main contractor
• Strong commercial experience across construction, refurbishment or similar projects
• Good knowledge of standard forms of construction contract and subcontract forms
• Strong understanding of procurement, cost control, valuations, variations and final accounts
• Based within a commutable distance of Bristol and able to work site based
• HNC, HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying is desirable
• MRICS, MCIOB or equivalent professional experience is advantageous
