Job summary

Thames Water Utilities Limited is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead a team of QSs across a diverse portfolio of projects on a hybrid basis. The role focuses on delivering value for money and contractual compliance while guiding delivery teams and stakeholders.

You will manage tenders, payments, changes, data collection and auditing, with accountability for budgets and performance across the portfolio. Reading and Maple Lodge bases support a flexible hybrid pattern.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience managing a portfolio of projects.
  • Experience leading a QS team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Commercial Assurance of Major Projects and Programmes contracts.
  • Provide contractual advice and support to delivery teams.
  • Manage team members and coordinate performance.
  • Ensure timely payments in line with contract terms.
  • Assess changes and extensions of time; collect project data.
  • Audit and approve project accounts; monitor contractual compliance.
  • Support budgeting and spending optimization across the portfolio.
  • Assist with resolution of claims with senior QS leadership.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor who will be responsible for managing a team of QSs who are responsible for ensuring that value for money is achieved alongside contractual compliance on a portfolio of projects. You could have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects ranging in contractor value from £25k to £200M during your career at Thames Water.

What you’ll be doing as a Senior Quantity Surveyor
  • Providing Commercial Assurance of Major Projects and Programmes Contracts.
  • Providing Contractual advice and support to Delivery Teams.
  • Management of Team Members.
  • Accountable for ensuring that the team carries out the following.

Challenging and agreeing on Project Tenders

Ensuring that payments are made on time and in accordance with the Contract

Assessing the Quantum of Change and/or Extension of Time

Data Collection of Projects

Auditing and agreeing on Project Accounts

  • Ensuring that appropriate processes are in place and monitored for your Delivery Area to ensure that Contractual Compliance is maintained and advising stakeholders if any non-performance is identified and corrective actions implemented as necessary.
  • Advising and supporting the management and optimisation of budgets and spending on the portfolio of Projects.
  • Data Collection of the relevant Contracts on the assigned portfolio.
  • Supporting the Principal and Managing Quantity Surveyor with the resolution of Claims as necessary.
Base Location: Reading – Hybrid. Maple Lodge – Hybrid.
Working Pattern or hours: 36 hours
What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
  • Have extensive experience in commercially managing a portfolio of projects, both pre- and post-contract.
  • Have recent experience in managing a QS Team.
  • Hold a degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • Have strong Communication and Stakeholder Management skills.
  • Be confident in negotiation and have applied dispute resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of water regulation. (incl. OFWAT Price Review methodology)
  • Knowledge of Risks associated with the delivery of projects and contracts.
  • Self-starter, resilient and tenacious under pressure.
  • Hold a full UK Driving license and have your own transport.
