Role Overview
The position is for a senior quantity surveyor / commercial manager with experience managing quantity surveying departments and contributing to departmental growth. The candidate should be capable of performing relevant quantity surveying tasks, maintaining client relationships, and engaging in business development to expand the department.
Experience and Knowledge
- Background in residential and commercial projects.
- At least five years of experience in similar roles.
- Proficiency in all aspects of quantity surveying, including pre- and post-contract duties.
- Experience with take-offs, bills of quantities, cost planning, contracts, tender analysis, valuations, variation management, budget reporting, and final accounts.
- Familiarity with SMM7, NRM3, and major measurement methods.
- Knowledge of all major contract forms, e.g., JCT.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and estimating software.
- Team-oriented mindset, seeking growth to director level, with potential for bonuses based on performance and new business.
Job Responsibilities
- File setup upon receipt of inquiries and maintaining archives.
- Pre-contract tasks including take-offs, bills of quantities, and cost planning.
- Interface with supply chain members from enquiry to contract award.
- Chase quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Maintain enquiry and quotation registers.
- Engage with clients, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Handle post-contract roles such as valuations, variations, final accounts, and budget management.
- Prepare reports for clients and internal use.
- Contribute to business development efforts.
Candidate Profile
- Strong understanding of building, construction, and quantity surveying.
- Highly organised, analytical, and accurate.
- Excellent communication skills and relationship-building abilities.
- Proficient in computer use, capable of working under pressure.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor.
- Related degree or qualifications; MRICS membership is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and negotiate effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills, time management, and attention to detail.
