Job summary

Octopus Electric Vehicles is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Python) to join our product and engineering team building systems powering our electric car leasing platform. You will design robust APIs, evolve backend architectures, and collaborate across data sources and services to deliver reliable, scalable capabilities.

You'll work with Python, GraphQL, PostgreSQL and NoSQL on AWS, contributing to frontend work when needed and mentoring teammates to raise the bar across the team.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in Python with strong software engineering fundamentals.
• Experience designing and building APIs, ideally with GraphQL.
• Comfort with relational (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases.
• Solid understanding of core software engineering principles and practices.
• Experience collaborating within cross-functional teams.
• Experience using AI tooling to augment development.
• Proven ownership of features from inception to delivery.

Responsibilities

• Work within a cross-functional team on key products for customers and internal teams.
• Design and build robust APIs, integrating services to optimise core processes.
• Architect and evolve backend systems and data models for performance and scalability.
• Work across multiple data sources, designing expressive schemas.
• Contribute to frontend applications when needed to improve UX.
• Maintain code quality and long-term maintainability.
• Share knowledge, mentor colleagues, and raise team capability.
