Elevation Engineering Division is working with an industrial gases business that serves a range of industries including power generation, healthcare, and manufacturing. They are seeking a Senior Project Engineer in the South Yorkshire region.
The Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for:
- Supporting the execution and delivery of projects safely, on budget, and on time.
- Ensuring project designs and costs are competitive and fit for purpose to support business objectives, including delivering returns and winning new third-party sales, while balancing SHEQ requirements.
- Identifying and reporting project risks, supporting the implementation of project strategies, managing variations to increase sales, and controlling supplier/contractor variations.
- Planning and coordinating engineering resources (internal and external) to execute projects.
- Developing project proposals to secure financial approval for budgets.
- Ensuring contractors understand and own SHEQ strategies and comply with statutory and company requirements.
- Building effective relationships with key customers and suppliers to maintain a customer-focused approach.
- Maintaining good communication with customers throughout the project lifecycle and acting on feedback.
- Managing site construction activities, including contractor control, permits to work, working at height, plant and equipment installation, testing, commissioning, and documentation such as as-built data and health and safety files.
SHEQ Responsibilities:
- Managing resources to ensure activities are performed safely and effectively within legislative and management system frameworks (e.g., BOC standards, Health & Safety at Work Act, regulations like COMAH, COSHH, WSOE, PSSR, ISO standards).
- Ensuring contractors are trained, competent, and capable of fulfilling SHEQ responsibilities, with practical competency assessments completed.
- Proactively leading safety improvements, setting high SHEQ standards, and owning operational risks with appropriate control measures.
- Maintaining SHEQ metrics for projects, including leading and lagging indicators.
Key Skills & Knowledge:
- Effective team player with the ability to operate independently and drive success.
- Strong communication skills to work with multiple stakeholders and sponsors.
- Proficiency in MS Office, SAP, CAD, SharePoint, Microsoft PPM.
- Ability to analyze costs and manage budgets.
- Skill in scope development and supporting project delivery.
- Knowledge of engineering practices, contracting, project management, and industry standards.
- Financial awareness and reporting skills.
- Basic risk management understanding.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation, including PSSR and CDM regulations.
- Engineering degree or HNC/HND in mechanical or electrical disciplines, or equivalent.
- Experience in industrial gases, hydrogen, or nuclear power sectors.
- Proven track record in project engineering, delivering projects on time, within budget, and to SHEQ standards.
- Membership in professional bodies like IMechE, APM, IET, with progress toward Chartership.
