Job summary

Marcus Webb Associates Limited in East Sussex is seeking a Production Manager to lead assembly and test teams, plan production and purchasing, and drive efficiency.

The role requires a track record in building and coaching teams, implementing robust production processes with lean/CI tools, and managing migration to automated assembly for higher volume. It is a full-time, on-site position based in East Sussex.

Qualifications

• A relevant qualification in production/manufacturing engineering with leadership experience.
• Proven ability to build, develop and coach teams.
• Excellent communication, decisive yet empathetic, able to work across all levels.
• Experience creating and improving robust production processes using lean, CI/Kaizen, and problem-solving tools.
• Experience with manual, semi-automatic, and automated production assembly.
• Experience migrating to automated assembly and scaling from low to high volume production (hundreds to thousands PA).
• Experience in complex electromechanical product manufacturing is useful but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead production teams scheduling and planning for assembly and test.
• Oversee purchasing of materials (c20 people, potential to double).
• Work with engineering and quality functions; report to MD; drive performance and efficiency.
• Drive process improvements and cost reductions.
• Ensure ramp-up to higher volumes and continuous productivity improvements.

Salary: Up to £80k + bonus + benefits

This role would suit a people-oriented individual who enjoys team development as much as developing manufacturing processes and improving efficiencies.

Introduction: Production Manager

• As production manager you will have responsibility for production teams (assembly and test) scheduling and planning as well as purchasing (c20 people with potential to double to 40+).
• You will work closely with engineering (design and development) as well as quality functions.
• As part of the senior management team, you will report to the Managing Director and have autonomy and accountability concerning production operations, output and efficiencies.

Company:

The company is involved with the design, development and manufacture of electromechanical products. These are used within sensor and image detection systems for an array of industry applications spanning research, aerospace, defence & security and environmental monitoring.

Knowledge of this sector is not required. However, the production manager should be able to apply their experience of production processes and manufacturing systems to this environment. Your key drivers are team development, process improvement, enhanced efficiency and volume ramp up.

Skills / knowledge:

Production Manager

• A relevant qualification in production / manufacturing engineering coupled with demonstrable experience gained in a leadership role
• Proven experience of building, developing and coaching teams
• Strong communication skills, a decisive yet empathetic nature, able to work effectively across all levels of company hierarchy
• Demonstrable experience of creating, implementing and developing robust production processes (knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement / Kaizen, problem solving and analytical tools (e.g. 8D, 5whys, FMEA, Six Sigma, etc)
• Experience of manual, semi-automated and / or automated production assembly
• Experience of migrating from manual assembly to automated assembly would be useful, as would scaling from low to high volume production (100s PA to 1000s PA)
• Experience of complex electromechanical product manufacturing would be useful but is not essential

Overall, a production manager / manufacturing manager that has the aptitude and ability to apply their experience to almost any product manufacturing process would work well here. Most importantly they would be present amongst the production organisation, winning the hearts and minds and developing a cohesive and effective team.

This Production Manager role a full-time, site-based role in East Sussex. It is commutable from Brighton, Hove, Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes, Tunbridge Wells, Haywards Heath, Crawley, Horsham, and Crowborough.
