Job summary

Placr Recruitment is recruiting for a Production Engineer on behalf of a dynamic engineering manufacturer based in East Sussex. You will support NPI, drive process improvements and ensure safety and quality across production.

The role requires a degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years in production engineering, and hands-on experience with CAD software and MS Office. You will collaborate across design, manufacturing and quality teams to optimise methods and outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience within a Production Engineering role.
  • Proven experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Experience using CAD software.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multiple departments.

Responsibilities

  • Support the New Product Introduction (NPI) process from design through to manufacture.
  • Oversee and continually improve manufacturing processes to maximise efficiency and quality.
  • Lead and manage Root Cause Analysis investigations using 8D methodologies.
  • Maintain and administer the 8D/RMA system.
  • Develop production operating instructions and equipment specifications.
  • Implement continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality standards.
  • Monitor production performance and identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Diagnose manufacturing issues and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Work closely with design, manufacturing and quality teams to improve production methods.
  • Ensure all manufacturing activities comply with health & safety procedures and best practice.
  • Review engineering drawings, BOMs and manufacturing routes to ensure production readiness.
  • Create and maintain production documentation where required.
  • Coordinate meetings with internal departments and project stakeholders.
  • Analyse manufacturing data and recommend improvements to productivity, labour efficiency and costs.
  • Source materials and equipment required for engineering improvements.
  • Promote safe working practices and identify any unsafe conditions or procedures.
  • Stay up to date with advances in manufacturing technology and engineering best practice.

Key Responsibilities

Essential
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience within a Production Engineering role.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Experience using CAD software.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

  • Experience within precision engineering or high-tech manufacturing.
