Job summary

BOC Limited in Uttoxeter, UK, is seeking a Senior Production Chemist to oversee gravimetrically prepared calibration gases and reference materials per ISO 6142 and ISO 17034 within our quality system. You will maintain cylinder control records, act as Flam/Ox approved signatory, and deputise for the Production Manager as required, coordinating tasks and stock of gases.

This role requires strong communication, organisation, IT literacy, and hands-on experience with gas cylinders and high-pressure

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
• Sound organisational ability for solo or team work.
• IT literacy with ability to use bespoke software, Word, Excel and databases.
• Extensive experience handling gas cylinders and high‑pressure gas equipment.

Responsibilities

• Produce gravimetrically prepared calibration gases and reference materials per ISO 6142 and ISO 17034 within the quality system.
• Maintain cylinder control database and accurate records for company and client cylinders.
• Act as Flam/Ox approved signatory, review gas mixture safety and supervision procedures.
• Deputise for the Production Manager when required, schedule work and coordinate departmental priorities.
• Liaise with Production Manager on ordering and stock control of gas cylinders, source gases and support gases.

Job description

• You will be responsible for the production of gravimetrically prepared calibration gases and reference materials in accordance with ISO 6142 and ISO 17034 accredited processes within the quality system.
• As well as supporting the integrity of production records, you will maintain the cylinder control database, ensuring accurate records of all cylinders owned by the company and its clients.
• You will act as a Flam/Ox approved signatory, checking that gas mixture compositions are safe to manufacture, generating safety filling procedures, and peer reviewing procedures produced by other approved signatories in accordance with SOP002 (PR041).
• When required, you will deputise for the Production Manager, including scheduling work and coordinating departmental priorities.
• You will be responsible for liaising with the Production Manager regarding the ordering and stock control of gas cylinders, pure source gases, and general support gases.

• You should possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required for dealing on a regular one-to-one basis with members of your team and other stakeholders
• You will have sound organisational ability with the capacity to work individually or within the team
• You will have IT literate and have the adaptability to use bespoke software systems, Microsoft Word and Excel and database software.
• Extensive experience in the handling of gascylinders, vacuum equipment, laboratory high pressure gas control equipment,high precision balances and high pressure gases
