Job summary

Egis is expanding its UK Water team and seeks a Principal Process Engineer to lead multidisciplinary design across major water and wastewater projects in the UK. You will own process strategy, review calculations and mentor engineers, delivering robust, sustainable solutions with a focus on safety and value.

The role offers hybrid working (London/Bristol/Manchester), clear progression, and exposure to high‑growth infrastructure programs shaping the sector.

Qualifications

• BEng/MEng or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or closely related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant professional institution (e.g., IChemE).
• Typically 8–10+ years’ relevant process design experience.
• Background in water, wastewater and/or biosolids/sludge treatment design.
• Proven ability to act as process discipline lead or senior technical lead on multidisciplinary projects.
• Strong technical expertise in water/wastewater treatment design including mass balance, PFDs, P&IDs and design basis development.
• Experience using process modelling tools such as BioWin, SUMO, Dynamizu or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of UK water industry standards and safety/regulatory drivers.

Responsibilities

• Lead process design delivery on multidisciplinary water/wastewater projects across the full design lifecycle.
• Act as process technical lead on projects, owning design strategy and key decisions.
• Review and approve process calculations, mass balances, PFDs, P&IDs and design documents.
• Lead modelling and simulation using BioWin, SUMO, Dynamizu or equivalent.
• Lead optioneering, capacity assessments, value engineering and design reviews.
• Coordinate across Mechanical, EICA, civil/structural, MEP, construction and operations teams.
• Promote lean and digitally-enabled delivery through standardised tools and templates.
• Provide technical assurance and support project managers on risk, scope and change control.
• Mentor and manage engineers; support recruitment and chartership progression.
• Contribute to bids, client engagement and growth of process capability.
