Job summary

Spirit Energy is seeking a Senior Process Engineer for Barrow-in-Furness on a 2-year PAYE contract. You will provide process engineering support to ensure safe, reliable operation of Morecambe Hub process systems and lead improvements across the asset.

Educated to degree level (ideally MEng in Chemical Engineering), Chartered Engineer preferred. You will work on compliance with ASME, API, ISO standards, conduct safety studies, and support capital projects and turnarounds.

Responsibilities

• Provide process engineering support to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Morecambe Hub process systems.
• Monitor and optimise process performance; identify opportunities to improve efficiency, throughput, energy use and reliability.
• Support asset operations by troubleshooting equipment issues and performing root cause analysis.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (ASME, API, ISO).
• Support inspection, testing, and condition monitoring programs to maintain asset integrity and extend equipment life.
• Provide technical input to capital projects and modifications, including specifications, design reviews, and commissioning activities.
• Review and approve process work scopes, job packs, and method statements for execution.
• Oversee contractors and vendors; ensuring safety and adherence to technical and contractual requirements.
• Support turn-around, commissioning, and start-up activities as required.
• Participate in safety studies and risk assessments (HAZOP, HAZIDs, LOPA) and implement safeguards.
• Support change management processes by assessing impacts of operational or design changes.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, datasheets, calculations, and operating/maintenance procedures.
• Act as a Lead investigator using Kelvin TopSet investigation techniques to support business requirements.

THE OPPORTUNITY SENIOR PROCESS ENGINEER

The terminal has played a long-standing role in processing and delivering natural gas, supporting both local employment and national energy supply. Location: Barrow-in-Furness Duration: 2-year contract Contract Type: PAYE Day Rate: TBC. For your application to be progressed, please ensure you provide a PAYE day rate banding expectation. Please note that there is no travel and accommodation allowance provided. Please only apply if you have existing right-to-work in the UK. Please outline notice period/availability to start. Spirit Energy currently have a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement for all office-based workers. 4 days must be worked in the office with compulsory days being Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The fourth day worked in-office (either Monday or Friday) is of the worker’s choosing but should be in keeping with what is most efficient and effective for their team. The office is open 5 days a week for full time, in-office working if this is the contractor’s preference.

In role, you will be required to:
