Job summary

Spirit Energy’s Barrow Gas Terminal is seeking a Mechanical Technician to perform routine engineering maintenance and defect repair on plant and equipment in gas production and condensate storage.

The role is a core contract until Cease of Plant Production (est. 2028), with a 9‑Day fortnight and a PAYE day rate of £286. Travel and accommodation are not provided; overtime and on‑call pay apply. Minimum BTEC ONC in Mechanical discipline and Mechanical CompEx are required.

Qualifications

  • Good communication and clear knowledge sharing.

  • Experience in petrochemical process operations and maintenance.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental performance procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Execute routine and on-routine maintenance on plant and equipment to protect safety and availability.
  • Investigate complex technical problems and identify solutions to return plant to normal operation.
  • Prepare technical reports and maintain records for analysis and audits.
  • Ensure safe working practices and appropriate perimetry are in place.
  • Carry out commissioning and decommissioning to meet planned programs.
  • Contribute to design and commissioning of plant modifications to improve availability.
  • Supervise staff and contractor personnel to ensure safe and efficient execution.
  • Ensure permit to work is in place and safety procedures are followed.

THE OPPORTUNITY - MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN, BARROW GAS TERMINAL

The successful candidate will be required to undertake routine engineering maintenance and defect repair tasks to ensure the reliability and scheduled availability of operational plant and equipment associated with gas production/processing and condensate storage.

Duration: Core contract role required until Cease of Plant Production (est 2028)

Location: Barrow Gas Terminal

Rotation/Hours: 9-Day fortnight, 9 hours paid per day

Holidays: 33 paid per annum

Rate: PAYE dayrate £286

Please be aware that travel/accommodation is not covered.

Overtime and On call payment in addition.

AND NOW FOR THE TECHNICAL BIT...

In role, you will be accountable for:

  • Executing routine and on-routine maintenance activities to the plant and equipment in accordance with agreed procedures and operational requirements to ensure the protection of plant, equipment and the safety of employees
  • Investigating complex technical problems relating to critical plant equipment, identifying solutions and acting to return plant to normal operating service
  • Preparing technical reports and maintaining appropriate records of activities within the recognised systems, for the benefit of future analysis and third-party audit.
  • Ensuring that safe working practices and procedures are adhered to within the area of work, and that appropriate perimetry is in place to ensure the protection of plant, equipment and the safety of employees.
  • Carries out commissioning and decommissioning activities to ensure planned plant operating programs are achieved in a timely manner
  • Contributes to the design and commissioning of plant modifications including the initiation of recommendations for modifications to ensure the ongoing availability of plant and equipment
  • Supervises other staff and vendor/contractor employees in undertaking particular work activities to ensure that activities are undertaken safely and efficiently n accordance with Company policies and procedures
  • Ensures that safe working practices and procedures are adhered to within the area of work, and that appropriate permitry is in place to ensure the protection of plant, equipment and the safety of employees.
ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Good communication skills that allow for knowledge sharing which is clear and unambiguous.
  • A proven ability to work collaboratively within teams, across organizations and externally
  • Demonstrable experience in petrochemical process operations / maintenance
  • A sound understanding of engineering principles
  • A thorough knowledge of the procedures and process systems that ensure ongoing integrity of health, safety and environmental performance.

Training/Certification:

  • Minimum BTEC ONC in a Mechanical discipline
  • Mechanical CompEx

Preferred certification:

TMJI10 / TMJI19 Bolted Connections

SBT 01/02 Small Bore Tubing

Banksman Slinger Training

Forklift Training
