Job summary

Spirit Energy is seeking an Electrical Technician for Barrow Gas Terminal to perform routine electrical maintenance and defect repairs on plant and equipment supporting gas production and condensate storage. This core contract role runs until ceasing plant production (est.

2028) and is based on site at Barrow. You will work a 9-Day Fortnight at £306 per day, with overtime and on-call payments, while upholding safety and integrity of the installation.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in petrochemical process, operations or maintenance.
  • Experience in oil and gas production/maintenance.
  • CompEx certification.
  • HV/SAEP/REP qualifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains plant and equipment and adheres to safety procedures.
  • Investigates complex technical problems and returns plant to service.
  • Prepares reports and maintains records of activities for audits.
  • Carries out commissioning and decommissioning activities.
  • Oversees contractors to ensure safe and efficient work practices.
  • Ensures permit-to-work and safe systems of work are in place.

In operation since 1985, Barrow Gas Terminal is a key piece of the UK's energy infrastructure and forms part of the Morecambe Bay gas fields. The terminal has played a long-standing role in processing and delivering natural gas, supporting both local employment and national energy supply.

THE OPPORTUNITY - ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN, BARROW GAS TERMINAL

Required to undertake routine electrical maintenance and defect repair tasks to ensure the reliability and scheduled availability of operational plant and equipment associated with gas production/processing and condensate storage.

Duration: Core contract role required until Cease of Plant Production (est 2028)

Location: Barrow Gas Terminal

Rotation/Hours: 9-Day fortnight, 9 hours paid per day

Holidays: 33 paid per annum

Rate: PAYE dayrate: £306/day

Please be aware that travel/accommodation is not covered.

AND NOW FOR THE TECHNICAL BIT...

In role, the Electrical Technician:

  • Executes routine and on-routine maintenance activities to plant and equipment in accordance with agreed procedures and operational requirements to ensure the protection of plant, equipment and the safety of employees.
  • Investigates complex technical problems relating to critical plant, identifies solutions and acts to return plant to normal operating service.
  • Prepares and presents technical reports and maintains appropriate records of activities within the recognised systems in order to maintain an accurate record of activities undertaken for the benefit of future analysis and third-party audit.
  • Carries out commissioning and decommissioning activities to ensure planned plant operating programmes are achieved in a timely manner.
  • Contributes to the design and commissioning of plant modifications including the initiation of recommendations for modifications to ensure the ongoing availability of plant and equipment.
  • Supervises other staff and vendor/contractor employees in undertaking particular work activities to ensure that activities are undertaken safely and efficiently in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that safe working practices and procedures are adhered to within the area of work, and that appropriate permitry is in place to ensure the protection of plant, equipment, and the safety of employees.
  • Carry out the duties of Power Technician and when suitably qualified will act as SAEP/REP.
ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrable experience in petrochemical process, operations or maintenance
  • Knowledge of production/maintenance operations gained through experience of working in the oil and gas industry.
  • CompEx certification
  • Ideally qualified as HV or SAEP or REP
