Job summary

MINISTRY OF JUSTICE is seeking a Senior Probation Officer to support the Head of Operational Function in a Local Delivery Unit. You will lead staff, ensure good practice, and manage resources in line with policy.

You will analyse performance data, develop staff, and drive improvements while coordinating with partners and safeguarding the public. Hybrid working is available for UK-based roles.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience with a proven record of good practice in offender risk assessment and management.
• Knowledge of the Probation Service role within the Criminal Justice System and multi-disciplinary settings.
• Experience of risk management and multi-agency risk assessment procedures.
• Ability to evaluate practice and contribute to policy development.
• Experience under pressure and meeting demanding deadlines.
• Experience working flexibly as part of a team to achieve targets.
• Championing diversity and inclusiveness within and outside the organisation.
• Ability to implement health and safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Provide effective management and leadership to the team.
• Be accountable for the quality delivery of good practice and team performance within policy and national standards.
• Ensure resources and interventions are deployed cost effectively to deliver value and strategic aims.
• Meet requirements of the NPS contract with HMPPS, CRCs and local plans.
• Access, interpret, analyse and apply performance data to maximise team performance.
• Develop staff, address underperformance, attendance, and health and safety concerns.
• Manage offender risk appropriately and meet public protection standards.
• Contribute to multi-agency work and feedback on casework.
• Promote a culture of innovation and continuous service improvement.
