Job summary

Ministry of Justice is seeking a Senior Probation Officer to lead a Local Delivery Unit, ensuring high standards of practice and safeguarding public protection. The role requires strong leadership, budget oversight, and the ability to interpret performance data to drive improvements.

The successful candidate will manage staff, oversee risk management, and work collaboratively with partners to deliver services under MoJ and HMPPS frameworks, with hybrid working arrangements where appropriate.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience with a proven record of good practice in probation or related settings (risk assessment/management).
• Understanding of the Probation Service within the Criminal Justice System; multi-disciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Provide effective management and leadership to the team.
• Ensure delivery of good practice and performance against standards.
• Manage resources, budgeting and contract obligations within policy.
• Access, interpret and apply performance data to maximise team performance.
• Develop staff and address underperformance and health and safety concerns.
• Champion diversity and inclusion in operations and staffing.
