Job summary

TPF Recruitment is partnering with a well-established independent accountancy practice in Brighton to recruit a Personal Tax Manager. You will oversee the personal tax function for private clients, combining compliance work with advisory duties in a collaborative, supportive environment.

The role offers hybrid working (up to two days from home) and a bright office in Brighton. A relevant tax background and strong client relationship skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Experience in a UK accountancy practice focused on personal tax.
• Experience preparing self assessment and trust tax returns.
• Experience managing or supporting junior staff members.
• Good knowledge of capital gains tax, inheritance tax and residency matters.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workload and deadlines.
• Confident communicator with ability to build client relationships.
• Professional qualification such as ATT, CTA or ACCA/ACA is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the firm’s personal tax function and manage a varied private client portfolio.
• Ensure compliance deadlines are met and provide high quality tax advice.
• Combine hands-on compliance work with advisory responsibilities.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff as appropriate.
• Liaise with partners and cross-trained accountants on advisory projects.
• Maintain regular client contact and develop long-term relationships.
• Monitor work in progress and collaborate with partners to keep billing up to date.
• Identify tax planning opportunities and support ad hoc advisory projects.
• Stay updated with personal tax legislation and HMRC guidance.
